Our charity in brief
Spend some time ‘with nature’…
Our Woodlands
Eden-Rose Coppice Trust has three secure urban Suffolk woodlands in Sudbury, Ipswich and Cornard.
Our Charity provides access to the natural environment to promote physical health, mental health and well-being to the community. Social therapeutic, peer support, daily routine, and intentional engagement such as woodland projects are all part of our health mix.
Wellbeing
Our mission is to vastly improve the mental health of people who are living with life limiting diagnosis, mental health, loneliness, and feelings of isolation. We support all age groups.
We achieve this through targeted ecotherapy programmes and workshops which vastly benefit participants’ psychological and physical health. We employ social involvement, education, skill acquisition and immersion in nature.
How we do this?
There is a lot of evidence showing positive links between urban green space and human health.
Several studies suggest how natural spaces contribute to enhanced health and wellbeing when living with a life limiting illness or other health issues. One of these research areas focuses on the role of biodiversity and human health and its positive response. Further studies suggest that macro-biodiversity (e.g. plants and trees), particularly in urban environments, is associated with environmental diversity and in turn to be linked to a wide range of health outcomes.
What are green prescriptions?
For many people, a visit to the doctor often ends with a medication prescription. But what if your doctor prescribed a walk in a wood or helping to enhance the environment instead of conventional medicine?
The World Health Organization (WHO) describes nature as our greatest source of health and wellbeing and says enhancing biodiversity is critical to recovery from many health issues.
Although the mental health benefits of getting out into the great outdoors have long been recognised, green prescriptions are now being widely used to treat physical conditions like high blood pressure diabetes and lung diseases.
Scientists say the health value of spending time in nature goes beyond the psychological
To be effective, green prescriptions must be part of a systemic approach to incorporating nature-based interventions and nature-based thinking in urban infrastructure and Eden-Rose Coppice Trust fully supports this issue.
What is loneliness?
Loneliness can affect anyone, it’s the state of feeling alone, not simply being alone. You can be perfectly content and connected with society while living in solitude, but you can also feel lonely in a crowded room.
Our support may come in the form of providing regular social activities in green space, such as working with nature, just sitting in our woodland or in some cases this might even take the form of a “nature prescription” from a GP. This is thought to provide collective relief from social anxieties and enable people of all ages to be with and connect with each other in meaningful, life-affirming ways.
Anxiety
Our woodland activities are designed to help you to control your anxiety rather than letting it control you. Everybody has some levels of anxiety whether its worrying, nervousness, being on edge or not being able to switch off. Our woodlands can provide the ideal space for positive steps to doing something you enjoy which will give you less time to spend worrying or feeling anxious and make you feel better overall.
